Make a tax-deductible donation to the Oahe Chapel Preservation Society
The Oahe Chapel Preservation Society maintains and preserves the Oahe Chapel for the public's enjoyment. This society is charged with the care, renovation, restoration, maintenance, and public use of the Chapel. It was created in 1984 when a group of local citizens joined together to save the Chapel after it was condemned. A major restoration was completed in 1988 with donations and volunteer labor, plus the assistance of the South Dakota State Historical Society and the State Historic Preservation Office. Since the initial rehabilitation, repairs on the Oahe Chapel have continued and have included new siding, shingles, and restoration of the pews, bell tower, and windows.
The Oahe Chapel provides the community a unique opportunity to celebrate both the past and present. Constructed as a mission school in 1877 by Reverend Thomas L. Riggs, the Chapel now serves as a site for summer ecumenical services, weddings, baptisms, and other special events. Please consider donating or becoming a member of the Oahe Chapel Preservation Society today.
Members will receive the annual Oahe Chapel News to keep up-to-date with current projects a the Oahe Chapel. Members are also eligible to rent the chapel at a reduced rate of $75. Donations are tax deductible where allowed by law.
