Jason Steinhauer To Headline South Dakota’s Annual History Conference

Award winning national public historian and author Jason Steinhauer will be the featured speaker at the South Dakota State Historical Society’s 2024 History Conference. The event will take place April 4-6, at the Pierre Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center.

Steinhauer is the author of the bestselling book History, Disrupted: How Social Media & the World Wide Web Have Changed the Past. He is a Global Fellow at The Wilson Center, and a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. He is the founder & CEO of the History Communication Institute, as well as a podcast host, newsletter writer, international speaker, and frequent media contributor. Steinhauer is passionate about creating an educated, informed and historically and media literate citizenry. Steinhauer will speak at the Saturday afternoon luncheon.

“Embracing the New Millenium-25 years since Y2K,” is the theme of this year’s conference. The event will bring in speakers from across the United States to share how the way we tell South Dakota’s history has changed dramatically because of our technology-driven society.

Dr. Ben Jones, the state historian and director of the South Dakota State Historical Society, says, “I look forward to the presentations and the awards luncheon. It’s always fun to celebrate what people are doing in our state to advance more and better history.”

Registration is open now and can be found at sdhsf.org/historyconference. The early bird discount is available until March 1st. Attendees can purchase a full registration, which includes both lunches, the Friday night reception, and all presentations, or they can pick and choose which day and events they would like to attend. The conference will be held in person and virtually. Each presentation and the awards luncheon will be available as a recording after the conference for members of the South Dakota State Historical Society.
